The recently rumored Canon EOS 3D camera may have a new name: Canon EOS-1S.
According to CR, this EOS-1S camera will have big megapixel at 46.1 MP, and the price tag will at $9,000 as introduced. This is definitely not sounding like a Nikon D800 competitor.
This Canon EOS-1S will have a superior low ISO performance from the sensor. New technology will be introduced in this camera and will set the stage for sensor development over the next 2-3 years.

Wait a year to 18 months after its launch and Canon will probably introduce the more affordable 5D Mk IV with an improved sensor with the same 46 MP. This will be a repeat of what the 5D MkII did with the 1Ds Mk III.
Just in time for the launch of the Nikon D4X 54MP body.
I hope you are correct with NIKON coming out with a higher MP cameras…

Wow, 46 megapixels – Makes my 21 megapixels seem puny!
Remember when considering buying this camera to budget for good glass; zooms will suffer badly in the corners. A good set of primes will be the ticket.
We would be ready for a Canon 46MP camera in Q2 of 2013. Very interesting Rumor indeed. This capability will be welcomed to finally have a true SLR foot-print, that “matches” the Medium Format cameras; years ago I was a loyal Hasselblad guy with 500CM bodies and $20k in Zeiss glass. Then in 1995 (thereafter sold all of this on eBay in 2003) we switched totally to “digital” imaging; everyone said I was nuts, spending $26k for a Canon-Kodak DCS-560 six MP camera, spare batteries were $1100 each; which is beaten by todays Canon Rebel. SO some 17 years later, we may see a Canon “medium format” resolution camera. Notice that Canon has been exercising itself in re-designing some of their valued “L” lenses in preparation for the new super-high resolving imagers. JimW
We’d like this level of camera to endure a couple of digital iterations, as to delay eventual obsolescence… Therfore some features for this “S” camera would be the following in addition to the pro-standards for ultra low-noise still imaging that Canon is well known for:
2K, 1080p full HDTV recording at 30fps and 60fps.
4K, recording at 30 fps.
Internal WiFi, stop with these absurd screw add-below appendages
Internal GPS, stop with the absurd screw add-to-the-side appendages..
(If Apple can have all this incorporated onto a 20 square millimeter chip so can Canon…)
Why not just skip the intermediate models and go straight to a 100MP Body for $100,000 and that takes a 1TB CF Card…
